Getting a job half done - completed!!

12.00.00am GMT Thu 28th Aug 2008

As residents on one half of the King Arthurs Way estate celebrated the repainting of the faded 'T' parking bay markings. The other half asked, "What about us"? Contrary to the report in the local paper of the 15th August 2008 stated that the faded 'T' parking bay markings had been repainted in all of King Arthur's Way. It was only Launcelot Close and Tintagel Close that had the lines repainted. Local resident , County Councillor Robin Hughes pressed both County Council and Test Valley Borough Council officers for an explanation why it was a job, only half done. Cllr Hughes explained that having walked the parking areas of the estate it was obvious to anybody that looked that the 'T' parking bay markings needed to be refreshed on both Camelot Close and Galahad Close, Galahad Close being by far the worse of the two.

A Test Valley Council officer confirmed that they had done the work on Tintagel Close and Launcelot Close but had not looked at Camelot Close or Galahad Close. Following Cllr Hughes intervention he has been assured of the following; County Highways officers and Test Valley Highways officers will inspect and split work as needed in Camelot Close and Galahad Close. An order has now been raised to refurbish the 'T' parking bay markings and the hatched areas in both Camelot Close and Galahad Close. This should take place within the next 4-6 weeks. Borough Councillor for Alamein ward, Len Gates is continuing discussions with both Testway Housing and Test Valley Borough Council to identify additional land for parking on the Alamein housing estates."

Council officers also gave an undertaking that the remaining ex-GLC housing areas in the Andover North County division, Admirals Way, Artists Way, Cricketers Way, Pilgrims Way, River Way and Roman Way will be inspected in due course and a schedule prepared, though this would take a little longer. Refreshing existing markings are likely to be prioritised as a item in planned routine maintenance schedule for each road.
