Enham Alamein is to have its 30mph limit as early in July as is practicable.12.00.00am GMT Thu 5th Jun 2008 Following a personal request to Hampshire's Executive Member for the Environment by County Councillor Robin Hughes, Hampshire Highway officers have confirmed that the Enham Alamein 'Village 30' scheme will be implemented as early in July as is practicable. In an email to Cllr Hughes today -5th June 2008 - the Group Manager, Traffic Environment Department stated, "I have alerted both our consultants and Chief Executive's Department with a view to implementation as early in July as is practicable."
Cllr Hughes said, "This is fantastic news for Enham Alamein and I hope that the new 30mph speed limit will be respected by all those that drive through the village. Since 1994 my Liberal Democrat colleagues and I have worked with and on behalf of many people all who have supported the need for a reduced speed limit through the village. In April 2007 I made a request for Enham Alamein to be included in the 'Village 30' scheme for 2007/08. I am grateful to all those who supported that request. Particularly the Enham Alamein Parish Council for their support and work in ensuring our success this time. The implementation of the 30mph speed limit through the village in July will mark the successful end of a long campaign for a 30mph limit.
