Enham Alamein 30mph speed limit to be implemented within the next few weeks?

County Councillor Robin Hughes has written to the Executive Member for the Environment on the 26 May 2008 requesting that the Enham Alamein 30mph speed limit to be implemented within the next few weeks. He writes;

Dear Councillor Kendal,

Enham Alamein is a unique village with a higher than average number of less able bodied resident in its community. The Enham Alamein 'Village 30' speed limit proposals were formally advertised from the 7th March to the 28th March 2008. As no objections were received the scheme was approved under delegated powers by the Head of Traffic and Safety, Peter Bayless on the 30th April 2008.

I understand you have agreed that, in general, most 'Village 30' schemes will be implemented in the Autumn to coincide with other schemes in the programme and with a major countywide publicity initiative. However I would request that the Enham Alamein 'Village 30' speed limit be implemented without any undue delay.

I am sure that your are aware of the Department for Transport research which indicates that one in forty pedestrians struck by a car at 20mph dies, compared with one in five at 30mph. At 40mph, the speed limit in the village of Enham Alamein, the survival rate falls to one in ten. These statistics speak for themselves and the need to implement these schemes quickly. I would be grateful if this scheme could be implemented within the next few weeks, hopefully before the start of the school summer holidays or sooner. I look forward to your response and I hope a confirmed implementation date.
